Veterans schedules are often U.S. vessels & navy veterans as a partial substitute for the federal census. Original source: United States of America, Bureau of the Census.

Special Schedules of the Eleventh Census () Enumerating Union Veterans and Widows of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, (2) Schedules of Union Civil War veterans or their widows are reproduced in National Archives Microfilm Publication M, Special Schedules of the Eleventh Census () Enumerating Union Veterans and Widows of Union Veterans of the Civil War ( rolls).The schedules are arranged by state, then by county, and then by locality.

Schedules survive for persons on U.S. Navy Vessels or in Navy. Index and images of schedules enumerating Union veterans and widows of veterans of the Civil War for the states of Kentucky through Wyoming.

Except for some miscellaneous returns, data for the states of Alabama through Kansas do not exist. Some returns include U.S. Naval Vessels and Navy Yards. The schedules are from Record Gr Records of the Veterans Administration and is NARA.

While the veterans schedules are not an every name census, they do serve as a helpful (if incomplete) heads of household enumeration 1890 book that census year.

About Veterans Schedules This database is an index to individuals enumerated in the special census of Civil War Union veterans and widows of veterans available on microfilm M ( rolls) from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

Most original schedules were destroyed by fire and flooding before the census could be microfilmed. While a few fragments remain, the absence of an census leaves a year gap in U.S.
